Something I've learned about successful, fun, happy homeschooling:

Prioritize RELATIONSHIPS FIRST.

Always.

So, when you run into that math assignment that makes your child (and you?) want to cry?

REMEMBER...It’s not more important than your relationship with your child!

What about the assignment that takes forrrrreverrrrr while your child gets distracted every 10 seconds? ...or the time your child is being sloppy in their handwriting? ...or the time your child completely refuses to do their school work???

They're NOT more important than the relationship.

So if you're having one of those days, here are three steps to keep the relationship good. And mama, you're not going to get it right every time, so just let that hope of perfectionism go right now! Just do your best!

First...take a deep breath. Next...Look into their EYES… Last...depending on you and your child, and the needs in the moment, pick what works for you both:

-Have some quiet time (it's ok to take a time-out for yourself... my bedroom is my time-out spot),

-Do something that will make you both laugh...

-Find something to do together than you both ENJOY:

bake some cookies…

do some art…

put on some fun music- this can change the mood faster than almost anything!

It’s okay if you don’t get back to the assignment right away. Strengthen the RELATIONSHIP FIRST and remember...

The assignment will pass. Your relationship will stay. Work to build a strong one!
